David Holsinger commence à composer plutôt tardivement, après avoir étudié le piano et l'euphonium. Le déclic est sa rencontre avec le compositeur tchèque Vaclav Nelhybel. Rapidement, il se spécialise dans la musique pour orchestres à vent. Il puise son inspiration dans les événements de la vie, et peint "des tableaux sonores", des portraits de gens, de lieux, des histoires.American composer of an Armenian father and an American mother of Scottish origin, Alan Hovhaness starts to write music at an early age. His parents not wanting him to become a composer made disappear his first works. He then turns to the studies of the Armenian, Indian, Perse and Japanese cultures. At the summer of 1943, his works are severely criticized by Leonard Bernstein and Aaron Copland, which leads him to destroy 1000 compositions among which are operas and seven symphonies. His aim being to make music "for all men (...) a beautiful and pleasant music". His work includes (without the disappeared works) more than sixty symphonies, nine operas, four ballets and many concertos.Amerikanischer Komponist eines armenischen Vaters und von amerikanischer Mutter schottischen Ursprungs, Alan Hovhaness hat sehr gut begonnen Musik zu schreiben. Er studiert die armenische, indische Kultur, die Kultur der Perser und Japaner. Sein Werk umfaßt (ohne Berücksichtigung der verschwundenen Werke) mehr als sechzig Symphonien, neun Opern, vier Ballette und zahlreiche Konzerte.
