James Curnow est né en 1943 à Port Huron (Michigan/USA). Il passa son enfance à Royal Oak (Michigan) et vit aujourd'hui à Atlanta (Géorgie). Il étudia la musique aux universités de Wayne et de Michigan, où il suivit des cours de direction auprès du Dr. Harry Begian et des cours d'euphonium auprès de Léonard Falcone. Pour ses mérites dans le domaine de l'enseignement - James Curnow enseigna pendanr plusieures années à l'université - il lui fut décerné en 1974 le "Outstanding Educator of America Award" et en 1980 la "Citation of Excellence" de la National Band Association. En tant que chef d'orchestre et compositeur, James Curnow voyage passablement aux Etats-Unis, au Canada, en Australie et en Europe. Il obtint des prix importants en récompense de ses diverses compositions. Depuis 1990, James Curnow collabore avec les éditions De Haske à la constitution d'une série comprenant ses compositions et arrangements pour brass band. / Bon nombre de ses compositions ont été acclamées de par le monde. Plusieurs d'entre elles ont été couronnées par les plus hautes distinctions.Bio: James Curnow was born in Port Huron, Michigan in 1943. Curnow received his formal training at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan and at Michigan State University where he was an euphonium student of Leonard Falcone and a conducting student of Harry Begian. He studied composition and arranging with F. Maxwell Wood, James Gibb, Jere Hutchinson, and Irwin Fischer. James Curnow has taught instrumental music in the public schools and at the college and university level. He taught all domains of instrumental music, among which are concert band, marching band, jazzensemble and brassband. As a conductor, composer and clinician, Curnow has traveled throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan and Europe where his music has received wide acclaim. He has won several international awards for band compositions. Curnow has been commissioned to write over two hundred works for concert band, brassband, orchestra, choir and various vocal and instrumental ensembles. He has won several awards for these compositions. At the moment James Curnow is president, composer and educational consultant for Curnow Music Press, Inc., as well as Assistant Professor of bands of the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana.Bio: James Curnow wurde 1943 in Port Huron, Michigan geboren. James Curnow unterrichtete Instrumentalmusik an allgemeinbildenden Schulen, sowie an Hochschulen und Universitäten. Er unterrichtete alle Bereiche der Instrumentalmusik, unter anderem sinfonisches Blasorchester, Marching Band, Jazzensemble und Brass Band. Als Dirigent, Komponist und Dozent bereiste Curnow die Vereinigten Staaten, Kanada, Australien, Japan und Europa, wo seine Musik großen Erfolg hat. Er hat mehrere internationale Preise für seine Kompositionen für Blasorcherster gewonnen. Curnow wurde beauftragt, über zweihundert Werke für Blasorchester, Brass Band, Orchester, Chor und verschiedene Vokal- und Instrumentalensembles zu schreiben. Für diese Kompositionen hat er etliche Preise gewonnen.
