Jan Van der Roost est né à Duffel, en Belgique, en 1956. Durant sa jeunesse, il fit connaissance avec les grands noms des répertoires d'harmonie, de fanfare et de brass band, et déjà il ressentit l'envie d'écrire lui-même quelque chose. Après des études musicales à l'Institut Lemmens de Louvain où il obtient un diplôme à triple mention en trombone, histoire de la musique et formation musicale, Jan Van der Roost poursuit sa formation aux Conservatoires Royaux de Gand et d'Anvers et conclut avec un diplôme de fin d'études en composition. Depuis, professeur à l'Institut Lemmens et directeur de l'harmonie, chef du "Brassband Midden Brabant", membre du jury et chef invité très demandé, il est également actif comme compositeur et arrangeur. Outre ses nombreuses oeuvres pour orchestre à vent, son répertoire comporte également des compositions pour quintette de cuivres, choeurs, piano, guitare ou orchestre symphonique. Un grand nombre de ses oeuvres ont déjà été diffusées à la radio et à la télé ou enregistrées sur disque compact par des musiciens renommés de divers pays. Actuellement, Jan Van der Roost n'écrit plus que sur commande.Jan Van der Roost was born in Duffel, Belgium in 1956. At a very young age he was introduced to the prominent names in the wind, fanfare and brass band repertoire and very soon Van der Roost felt the urge to put something on paper himself. After musical studies at the 'Lemmens Instituut' of Leuwen where he obtains a diploma with triple mention in trombone, musical history and musical teaching, Jan Van der Roost continues his education at the Royal Conservatories of Ghent and Antwerp and concludes with a final diploma in composition. Since then he is professor at the 'Lemmens Instituut' and director of harmony, conductor of 'Brassband Midden Brabant', member of jury and much in demand as guest conductor; he is also active as a composer and arranger. In addition to his many works for windorchestra, his repertory also comprises compositions for brassquintet, choruses, piano, guitar and symphony orchestra. A great number of his works already were transmitted on radio and television or were recorded on compact disc by famous musicians of various countries. Nowadays Jan Van der Roost does only compose on request.Jan Van der Roost wurde 1956 im Belgischen Duffel geboren. Sein interesse für die Blasmusik wurde schon sehr früh geweckt. Nach musikalischen Studien in Institut Lemmens von Löwen. Diplom für Posaune, Musikgeschichte und musikalische Bildung (Lehramt). 'Weitere Studien am Conservatoires Royaux von Gent und von Antwerpen; Abschluß Komposition. Seitdem Professor am Institut Lemmens und Direktor der Harmonie, Chef von "Brassband Midden Brabant", Mitglied der Jury und sehr gefragter Gastdirigent. Komponist uind Arrangeur für sinfonische Blasmusik. Außer seinen zahlreichen Werken für Blasorchester umfassen seine Werke Kompositionen für Blechensembles, Chöre, Klavier, Gitarre oder symphonisches Orchester. Eine große Anzahl ihrer Werke ist bereits auf Tonträgern und in Rundfunk/Fernsehsendungen dokumentiert.
