C'est aux Pays-Bas, en 1951, que naquit Jan de Haan. Il reçut sa première inspiration de son père, grand amateur de musique à vent et tromboniste actif. Dès son plus jeune âge, Jan de Haan se sentit attiré par la direction d'orchestre. A 17 ans, musicien à cette époque, il troqua son instrument contre la baguette de direction et il lui fallut une seule année pour mener sa société au triomphe lors d'un concours. De 1969 à 1973, Jan de Haan suivit des cours de pédagogie et de trombone à l'Académie Pédagogique de Leeuwarden, et c'est en 1976 qu'il obtint son diplôme de fin d'études de direction au Conservatoire d'Utrecht, auprès de Henk van Lijnschooten. De 1974 à 1994, Jan de Haan fut le chef d'orchestre du Brassband Soli Deo Gloria. Entre-temps, Jan de Haan collaborait aussi avec d'autres orchestres, qu'ils soient professionnels ou amateurs, symphoniques ou à vent. De 1978 à 1989, Jan de Haan était également compositeur, arrangeur, réalisateur et programmateur auprès de la radio et de la télévision hollandaise où il a réalisé 140 programmes de télévision. Actuellement, Jan de Haan travaille non seulement comme chef d'orchestre invité, mais aussi comme directeur de De haske, l'édition de musique fondée par lui-même en 1983.He was born in the tiny village of Warns in the Netherlands in 1951. His first inspiration came from his father who is himself a great music lover and a trombone player. Even at an early age, Jan de Haan was attracted to conducting. As a seventeen-year-old musician, he exchanged his instrument for a baton, and before the year was out he had led his first band to success in a contest. Jan de Haan studied music education and the trombone at the Pedagogical Academy of Music in Leeuwarden from 1969 until 1973. He was awarded his conductor's certificate with Henk van Lijnschooten at the Conservatory in Utrecht in 1976. Between 1974 and 1994 Jan de Haan was the conductor of the Soli Deo Gloria brass band (Soli Brass). Alongside this permanent position, Jan de Haan has worked together with a number of professional symphony orchestras and many amateur and professional wind bands. Jan de Haan has traveled extensively throughout western Europe, to the USA, Iran and Japan as a guest conductor. From 1978 until 1989 Jan de Haan was also a composer, arranger, producer and program-maker for the Dutch radio and television, where he made over 140 television programs. Today Jan de Haan combines guest conducting with his work as director of De Haske Publications, which he founded in 1983.Jan de Haan wurde 1951 im niederländischen Warns geboren. Seine Liebe zur Musik entdeckte er durch seinen Vater, der selbst ein großer Musikliebhaber war und Posaune spielte. Schon in jungen Jahren war Jan de Haan vorn Beruf des Dirigenten fasziniert. Mit siebzehn Jahren tauschte er sein Musikinstrument gegen den Taktstock, und bereits ein Jahr später konnte er mit seinem Verein bei einem Wettbewerb den ersten großen Erfolg feiern. In den Jahren 1969 bis 1973 studierte Jan de Haan Musikpädagogik und Posaune an der Musikpädagogischen Akademie in Leeuwarden. Am Utrechter Konservatonum unterwies ihn Henk van Lijnschooten in der Kunst des Dirigierens. 1976 schloss er sein Studium mit dem Direktions-Diplom in Utrecht ab. Von 1974 bis 1994 war Jan de Haan ständiger Dirigent der Brass Band Soli Deo Gloria (Soli Brass). Darüber hinaus arbeitete Jan de Haan als Gastdirigent auch mit zahlreichen anderen professionellen Sinfonieorchestern und mit vielen Amateur- und Berufsblasorchestern. Seine Tätigkeit als (Gast-)Dirigent führte Jan de Haan bisher in fast alle europäischen Länder, in die USA, in den Iran und nach Japan. Von 1978 bis 1989 war Jan de Haan als Komponist, Arrangeur, Produzent und Programmverantwortlicher beim holländischen Rundfunk und Fernsehen tätig. In dieser Zeit gestaltete er über 140 Fernsehprogramme. Il lui donne le sous-titre Chant de consolation. Plus tard, la mélodie sera éditée dans le recueil de cantiques Praxis pietatis melica (Exercices lyriques de piété -1672) de Johann Crüger, puis intégrée dans la deuxième édition du recueil Geistreiches Gesangbuch (1704) de Johann Anastasius Freylinghausen. Depuis son entrée dans ces ouvrages de référence, le cantique connut une notoriété jamais démentie. D'ailleurs, Jean-Sébastien Bach s'en est servi plus d'une fois et sa Cantate BWV 93 tire son nom de l'hymne chrétienne. Dans cet arrangement de Jan de Haan, le choral est exposé à deux reprises : d'abord précédé d'une courte introduction suivie d'une variation entre chaque vers, puis dans une trame continue qui, fidèle au sous-titre original, cherche dans son action la consolation.
